Sort-of Rosary Beads

I don't mean to be offensive to any of my Catholic sisters, but I am going to share today what I consider to be my non-Rosary-Rosary beads....or cards and how I use them.

Last week, I wrote about my worrying ways. You can read about them here.

With God's help, I am putting that behind me.

When I look at these pictures I took last summer in Montana, I can hardly believe I saw all this beauty with my own eyes!

Several of you shared with me that you struggle with worry, too. So, I thought I would share today a couple of methods I am using that are helping me.

First of all, I don't pray at night any more.

That may sound shocking to you and it kind of does to me. In the past, I would be almost asleep and them remember that I hadn't prayed which would bring to mind all my worries....everyone on our church prayer list and my personal prayer list.

That is all it took to get the worry wheel turning.

Not Good.

So now, I go through my "rosary cards". I have about 20 Bible verses written on cards that I am trying to memorize. I work on them most mornings for a few minutes before I do have my prayer time, and I am beginning to actually learn many of them.

Now at night, instead of going through my worries one by one, I mentally go through my cards, turning them into praises to my Heavenly Father.

This new habit has really helped me to lay my burdens at my Lord's feet and let him carry them. These verses remind me that HE is perfectly capable, and I am not.

What a blessing that is!

I would love to hear how you kick worry out the door, so please share your ideas. And if you would like, you can download the little PDF file I created that has more of my verses.

  2. I am kind of like you , Susan. I pray little prayers all day long and don't really do any formalized prayers at night either. It works for me and I think God is always listening day or night- xo Diana

  5. Beautiful Susan...just beautiful! I think we can all relate to your post and it is such a great reminder to give it up to God. At night before I go to sleep I think of what I am thankful for....I used to think of the things from the day that I would like to do better but like you said that only brought about negativity and worry. So I stick to my thankfulness and pray throughout the day. As for tomatoes...what is your method for watering them??? I only ask because sometimes that can pose problems. I often lay newspaper right under my plants to keep their leaves off the soil..sort of like a little natural barrier. Hope that helps and I will shoot you some other ideas as the season approaches! All the best...beautiful shot of Montana!

  6. Very, very sweet.

I have a friend who said recently that when they pray at night, they don't say Amen because they want to stay in God's presence...even though they DO realize they would still be in His presence...it just feels as if a door wasn't shut.

  7. This is really inspired, Susan! My husband's great-grandfather sends out a scripture each month for the family to memorize. I've been meaning to put the old ones on cards so I can stay fresh, and now I'm inspired to make it happen. Thank you!

  9. I do not know how you print on your photos but am glad you know! Your photos and God's Words are a balm in Gilead; I especially love Nehemiah. Did you know the author Debbie Macomber accepted Christ during a Bible study on Nehemiah?

  10. Oh, as to kicking worry out the door, some days it's easier or more difficult than others. March is especially difficult for me; don't know why, but since Dave died, March has been the hardest month to stay on my feet and alive. There are days I pray and pray while other times I simply endure. What keeps me going is God's whisper, "But if you end it all, you'll miss all those blessings I have for you."
Whatever it takes, God; whatever it takes.
