Let me back up and begin at the beginning-you know, they say that is a very good place to start.
I LOVE Diane Keaton!
I think she is adorable and funny with a great sense of style.
And she wears a white shirt like no one else.
When she makes a new movie, I almost always go to the theater to see it. So when my teacher buds decided to attend a matinee showing of her latest movie, The Big Wedding, I waved my hand in the air and said, "Me, too! Me, too!"
The movie is loaded with stars....Susan Sarandon, Catherine Heigl, Robert De Niro Amanda Seyfried...even Robin Williams makes an appearance.
Should be good, right?
Not to me.
Whoever wrote this movie must hate the Catholic church. The movie makes fun of Jesus and those who love Him, priests, confession, marriage, divorce, sobriety.....and those were the things I caught while I was trying to digest all this anti-Christian propaganda.
Are there people on the planet any more stupid than Christians, especially Catholics? Not if you believe the line presented in this film.
I am not a Catholic, but it doesn't matter. I am a Christian.
This is what confuses me...
Why is it ok, even cool, to present GOD and His followers as buffoons? I don't see this being done to other religious groups. I see the media and "society" bending over backwards not to be offensive to them.
And is it really necessary to say the "f" word a million times in a movie about a WEDDING? The word doesn't shock me anymore, but I don't know a lot of people who use it in every sentence.
Get out the thesaurus and broaden your vocabulary, screenwriters! It makes your characters look stupid.
I sat through the whole thing with my friends and I laughed occasionally. There were even some good parts. The second generation in this family seemed to have TONS more sense than their parents, and maybe that is the whole point.
I loved the setting of the film and the way Diane Keaton and Susan Sarandon dressed. The groom's sister also wore an adorable dress to the wedding, so kudo's to the costume designer!
Reports are out there that prove persecution of Christians is on the rise worldwide, and that is going to continue, I suspect. Our own culture is giving permission for "soft" persecution now, but I pray that it stops right there.
